Sr. Clare Bonfield John and Hannah O’Brien Bonfield and and given the name Mary at her baptism. Mary was one of six children, three girls and three boys. Mary entered St. Walburg Monastery on August 8, 1929 and received the habit and her new name Sr. Clare on March 21, 1930. She made first profession on August 3, 1931 and final profession on August 13, 1934. Sr. Clare celebrated her Silver Jubilee on July 2, 1956 and Golden on June 27, 1981 as a patient in the infirmary.

Sr. Clare was a teacher in the following schools:

  • St. Pius X (Grade 6) 1963-65
  • St. John, Georgetown (Grades 3 & 5) 1965-67; (Grades 4-5) 1968-69
  • Blessed Sacrament (Grade 3) 1969-75

Sr. Clare suffered severe burns in the fall of 1965 which hospitalized her for many months but she eventually recovered and continued teaching. She returned to the monastery in 1976 where she died on May 25, 1982.
