Sr. Mary Margaret Bell was born to Charles Cecil and Margaret Flag Bell and given the name Mary Margaret at her baptism. She entered St. Walburg Monastery on September 8, 1939 and received a new name, Sr. Bertilla, on June 28, 1940. Sr. Bertilla made first profession on June 30, 1941 and final profession on June 30, 1944.

During the following years she served as organist at St. Henry Parish and taught piano in the school. During this time the community celebrated its centennial, and, Sr. Bertilla helped with the school wide presentation in music and drama at Villa Madonna Academy. Sr. Bertilla accepted a dispensation from vows on May 27, 1959 and left the community two days later.

In 1978 Mary Margaret requested re-admission to St. Walburg Monastery and her probation began on June 25, 1974. She made monastic profession on September 14, 1980.

Sr. Mary Margaret was a talented musician, serving in later years as a teacher to aspiring young pianists. Her death occurred on December 8, 1985.
