The Season of Creation is an ecumenical initiative celebrated every year from September 1 to October 4 (the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi). The Season of Creation gives us the opportunity to give thanks to God for creation of the world and of humanity and to recall and strengthen our responsibility to care for God ‘s creation.
Pope Leo XIV in his message for this year’s World Day of Prayer for the care of creation stresses, “we are called to allow our hearts to be renewed so that we might seek peace and care for creation. Scripture tells us to guard our hearts, for everything we do flows from them. (Prov. 4:23)
The Season of Creation helps us keep before our minds the need to pray each day for peace and for our earth’s care. It will also inspire us to work for peace in our lives and to remember and promote care for our earth.
The earth we cherish today is the home that future generations will inherit. May we care for the earth and for one another with reverence, courage and hope.
