Blessings on all graduates.
Graduation is upon us—college and high school. It’s a time of great joy and great hope!
Congratulations to all who have accomplished so much to get to this day, this commencement!
It has always intrigued me that we refer to graduation ceremonies as commencement, when it feels more like an end than a beginning. For those of us who have had one or many graduations we do know it is really the commencement of the next step, whatever that may be.
There is a sense of achievement and hopefulness, a sense of the known and the unknown. For some there is a sense of loss of the familiar and a fear of the future. For some it is a feeling of joyful relief and even more joyful anticipation.
Whatever each graduate feels it is time to celebrate what has been and what will be.
I offer this blessing from Numbers 6:24-26:
May the LORD bless you and protect you. May the LORD smile on you and be gracious to you. May the LORD show you his favor and give you his peace
