We are coming to the end of the school year. Some graduations have already taken place and more will be coming in the weeks ahead.

We wish the graduates congratulations on all they achieved and wish them well as they move on to college, graduate school, the military or the work force. We encourage them to use all their talents for the benefit of others.

“The school of Christ is the school of love. In the last day, when the general exam takes place…Love will be the whole syllabus.”

Bellarmine University in Louisville included the following anonymous quote in their graduation materials. For everyone, but especially for those of faith, it says it all. Whatever exams have been successfully completed will make a difference, but the ultimate exam will ask how each person has brought love to the world.

Rather than being overwhelmed with the bigotry, violence, apathy and hatred in the world we ask our graduates (and all of us?) to make love a daily task. This will make the biggest impact in each person’s corner in this world. That is our “whole syllabus.”
