Sister Ignatia Bruns, 1906-1982

Sr. Ignatia Bruns was born to Frank and Margaret Meiners Bruns and given the name Mary Margaret at her baptism. Mary Margaret was one of eight children, three girls and five boys. She entered St. Walburg Monastery on November 21, 1926 and received the habit and her new name on June 20, 1927. Sr. Ignatia made first profession on August 24, 1928 and final profession on August 24, 1931. She celebrated her Silver Jubilee on July 2, 1953 and Golden on July 9, 1978.

After 1943 Sr. Ignatia served at the monastery in bookbinding and leathercraft and also as refectorian. Earlier she spent some years in the classroom at the following missions:

  • St. Benedict 1929; 1932-33
  • St. Benedict Commercial 1934-35
  • Holy Cross 1930-32
  • Blessed Sacrament 1935-38
  • Holy Cross High 1938-39

Sr. Ignatia died at St. Elizabeth Hospital on July 2, 1982.
