“Today’s Invitation” by Sr. Kimberly Porter

As the holidays end and a new year begins I find myself thinking about invitations. There are invitations to dinner, to celebrate special occasions, and meetings. Sometimes we receive an invitation to reconnect with someone we’ve loss touch with in the busyness of life. Sometimes an invitation is the beginning of a relationship or experience that changes the course of our lives. Acceptance of an invitation indicates an openness and a willingness to engage with the other.

What is today’s invitation? We each will answer the question differently. I wonder though if there is not some common ground. An invitation to listen and be present? An invitation to be the presence of Christ to all who cross our paths? An invitation to allow our hearts to be broken by the pain and violence in the world so that we might be transformed into compassion in action? May we each be open and willing to accept the invitations which bring connection and transformation in our lives and in our world.
