29. The Passion of John the Baptist
O God, you chose John the Baptist to be the herald and forerunner of Jesus Christ our Savior. As John suffered persecution and martyrdom to announce the coming of the Messiah among us, teach your people how to witness to Christ in word and deed. We pray in the name of Jesus Christ, who abides with you and the Holy Spirit, now and forever.

God of splendor, you call us to be your holy people, adopted daughters and sons. Through Jesus Christ we have been redeemed and our sins forgiven. Grant that we may come to understand the mystery of your love for us and be gathered as one in Jesus Christ, in unity with the Holy Spirit, now and forever.

31. Monday of the 22nd Week in Ordinary Time
God, protector of orphans and defender of widows, your mercy is unsurpassed. Give us the courage to show your compassion in this world. Bring us to the end of the day in peace and gratitude, rejoicing that you are our God. We pray in the name of Jesus Christ, now and forever.

We long for you, God, Source of mercy and peace.  Reveal your power working among us here as you revealed your power to your people Israel.  Remember not our transgressions, but be with us and shower us with the fullness of your grace.  We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ who reveals your presence among us and who abides with you and the Holy Spirit, now and forever.

Eternal God, in you we live and move and have our being.  In you we place our hope.  In times of distress we call upon your name and you answer us.  Give us the grace to continue to place all our trust in you.  May you be the sole desire of our longing hearts today and every day.  We pray in the name of Jesus Christ who abides with you and the Holy Spirit, now and forever

O God, source of authority and spring of justice, you guide your people the Church with unfailing care. Through the intercession of Gregory, give us spirit of wisdom and discernment. Creator of earth, sky and sea, praise and glory to your name!  On this first day of the week, we celebrate the glorious resurrection of Jesus Christ, the Sun of Justice.  He banishes the darkness of death and restores creation to its fullness.  May he lead us through life to the light of everlasting day where you are blessed and glorified in unity with the Holy Spirit, forever and ever.

God, you hear the prayers of the sorrowful and the afflicted.  Give us the courage to hear all who cry out in pain.  Teach us to act with compassion and to speak for justice.  We pray in the name of Jesus Christ who is your love and our salvation and abides with you and the Holy Spirit, now and forever.

God of grace and beauty, we rejoice to celebrate the birth of Mary, Mother of our Savior. With her birth your plan for our salvation came closer to fulfillment. Through her intercession, renew your Church in holiness and grace and bestow the gifts of peace upon our earth. Shepherd of Israel, you feed the hungry, bind up those who are broken and strengthen all who are weak.  As you seek the lost and search for those who stray, we pray that your protection will be with us all the days of our life.  Be our refuge on our pilgrim way and lead us to our eternal home with you.  We pray in the name of Jesus Christ who abides with you and the Holy Spirit, now and forever.

You have promised to remain with us, Eternal God.  You have created us and we are precious in your sight.  We thank you for all the gifts you give us.  May our actions this day give you praise and bring us closer to you.  We pray in the name of Jesus Christ who abides with you and the Holy Spirit, now and forever.

Gracious and loving God, you guard our steps and make our paths safe.  Your love for your people is so strong that you sent Jesus Christ your Son to walk the way of suffering and death for our sake.  Grant us the strength to follow Jesus Christ wherever he may lead, for we know that he will guide us to eternal life with you and the Holy Spirit, now and forever.

God of wondrous mercy, your only Son Jesus Christ accepted death on the cross and was lifted up that he might draw all creation to himself. We praise you for the mystery of the cross. O God, through your providence and grace Mary shared in the sufferings of Jesus Christ our Savior as he was raised on the cross. O God, you raise up in your Church leaders and teachers who dedicate themselves to your service and who teach by the example of their lives. Through the prayers of Cornelius and Cyprian let us persevere in living the gospel even in the midst of trials and suffering. O God, you blessed the great mystic and abbess Hildegard with abundant gifts and revealed yourself to her in visions of color and light. You are rock and strong refuge, O God, and you raise us up when we fall.  Rescue us from all distress and keep us from any temptation that might lead us away from you.  In all that we do, may our efforts give you praise through Jesus Christ who abides with you and the Holy Spirit, now and forever.

Compassionate and merciful God, graciously accept our contrite hearts as a worthy expression of sorrow for our sins.  Create within us pure hearts and steadfast spirits that we may partake of the salvation won for us by Jesus Christ.  May we strive to imitate him in offering our lives so that others may live.  We pray in the name of Jesus Christ who overcame sin and death, and now lives and reigns in unity with you and the Holy Spirit, now and forever.

Majestic and mysterious are you, O God our Creator.  You bestow all manner of good gifts upon us and through Jesus Christ you destroy sin and death.  May everything we do today give you praise as we work to extend your reign here on earth.  We pray in name of Jesus Christ who abides with you and the Holy Spirit, now and forever.

God of mercy and love, you called Matthew from collecting taxes to be an apostle and evangelist. Through his gospel you give us the words of eternal life and show us how to live as the Church of Jesus Christ. Keep us steadfast and never let us forget the promise of Christ to be with us always, even to the end of the world. God of glory, whose voice resounds throughout the universe and within our hearts, be with us this day.  Give us the courage to witness to your justice and the conviction to act as a people saved by the power of Jesus Christ, our Risen Lord.  We pray in the name of Jesus Christ who abides with you and the Holy Spirit, now and forever.

God of mystery, you blessed Pio of Pietrelcina with the gift of discernment and passion for the salvation of souls. You marked his body with the five wounds of the crucified Christ as a powerful witness to the Paschal Mystery. Through his intercession, may we imitate his example of devotion and compassion that we may follow the Risen Christ into death and resurrection. God of mercy and forgiveness, we come to you knowing that you delight only in goodness and truth.  Each day help us to act for good and to speak for truth.  Strengthen us with the example of Jesus Christ who is your voice of good news for the world  and who abides with you and the Holy Spirit, now and forever.

God, you defend the stranger and uphold the widow and orphan; your deeds are deeds of saving justice for all.  May our thoughts and actions this day be such that you delight in them as you delight in the offering of Jesus Christ, your beloved Son, who abides with you and the Holy Spirit, now and forever.

.O God, in you we place all our hope.  Hear the prayer of your faithful assembly gathered here.  Grant that we may pass each day in gladness and peace and come to its end singing your praise.  May Jesus Christ guide our actions and bring us all together to share your glory in the Holy Spirit, forever and ever

With the heavenly choirs we glorify you, O God. Today we thank you for the archangels who have entered into human history as messengers of your salvation. Through the intercession of Michael, protect us; through the intercession of Gabriel, give us the joy of your good news; through the intercession of Raphael, give us healing. May they gruard our going out and coming in, until we see you face to face in all your glory.
